报告摘要: 

   We briefly review the biography of Pafnuty L. Chebyshev (1821-1894), a great Russian mathematician. We then introduce the Chebyshev polynomials and their optimal approximation properties. Finally, we describe the Chebyshev semi-iteration technique for accelerating the convergence rates of stationary matrix splitting iteration methods used to solve large sparse systems of linear equations. The motivations,mechanisms and theory related to the Chebyshev semi-iteration methods are also explained in detail.
